Setting up a Home Network
The easiest setup method is using 10/100BaseT(X) technology.
This requires:
An ethernet hub or a switch (switch is fast and better) Try to get one that has a crossover button.
Category 5 cabling.
A 10/100Base-T(X) Network Interface Card (NIC) for each machine.
You can get a starter kit with a switch and 2 NIC's for under $100 from computer superstores or on-line.
